Your report is more than one number

A credit report records information about credit accounts and repayment behaviour. A score summarises some of that information, but it is not an approval decision. A lender also considers the information in your application and your ability to repay.

Look at your record before you apply

The NCR advises consumers to check their credit records and query incorrect information with the credit bureau. Review accounts you do not recognise, balances that appear incorrect and payment information that does not match your records.

Use the bureau’s own channel and keep supporting documents and the reference number for any dispute. You do not need to send Fairloan your report.

Browsing and applying are different steps

Fairloan does not request your identity number, access a credit bureau or run a credit check. You can change comparison filters as often as you like.

A lender’s application process may include a credit enquiry. Read the consent on the lender’s site so you understand what information it will use. Do not treat browsing a comparison site as pre-approval.

Build a plan around your actual budget

A loan that is available is not automatically a comfortable commitment. Add the proposed instalment to your regular spending and existing debt repayments. Leave room for irregular costs and changes in income.

If current repayments are already difficult, start with our help page rather than sending applications to more lenders.
