A selection, not the whole market

The directory includes 17 South African lenders and 23 distinct products or customer variants. Banks and non-bank providers are listed separately in the directory. The list is not exhaustive, and inclusion is not an endorsement or evidence of a commercial partnership.

How results are ordered

By default, lenders are listed alphabetically. You can also sort by the highest published maximum loan amount. Neither order measures suitability, quality or your chance of approval. No lender pays for placement in this version.

What filters mean

Amount and term filters use published ranges. An unconfirmed minimum can still appear, with that limitation explained. An unknown or conflicting maximum is excluded when filtering that field. Not every combination within a range is necessarily available. Days and calendar months are kept separate, without conversion. These are product ranges, not eligibility results.

“Short-term loans” groups smaller, shorter-duration products, including bank loans, salary-linked advances and revolving-account withdrawals. Some extend beyond six months. This is an editorial category, not a classification under credit legislation. Consolidation is included where the lender explicitly describes that use.

First-time and returning-customer limits are separate options. The customer-status filter selects the relevant published variants; it does not check whether you hold an eligible account. Product pages explain account, income, documentation and application-channel restrictions.

Rates, fees and freshness

We use official lender pages and show a source link and observation date. Where pages disagree, we describe the difference. We do not invent missing rates, treat unknown fees as zero or publish a lender-specific repayment without a verified pricing model.

Annual interest, monthly interest, a rate for the entire loan duration and APR are different measures. Labels preserve the source’s period; the comparison table includes the basis. Published examples are not personalised offers. Fees include VAT only where stated, and insurance costs remain unknown if not disclosed.

For example, FNB’s page gives conflicting 66- and 72-month terms. Its term range is therefore withheld from term-filtered results. Bayport’s current consolidation page publishes no numerical amount or term limits. Neither gap is filled from third-party directories.

Sources we could not verify

African Bank. The official website displayed a service-maintenance notice during our check. Current loan amounts, terms, rates, fees and credit-life costs could not be verified. This profile is excluded from comparison results until the product information is available. Check attempted 7 November 2026. Verification status. Official website.

Displayed rates are flagged for review 30 days after the source check. In an active browser, expired rate labels are replaced with a prompt to check the current rate. Static pages are also refreshed when the site is rebuilt. The profile keeps the source and limitations available. Before applying, obtain a current written quote directly from the lender.

What our calculator does

The calculator is a separate planning tool. Its example assumptions are editable and are not any lender’s offer. It uses monthly amortisation, adds an initiation fee to the principal, and includes fixed monthly service and insurance amounts. It does not predict eligibility or replace a lender’s calculation.

How links and funding work

The current directory links directly to official lender websites without affiliate tracking. Comparing here is free. If paid referral relationships are introduced, the relevant placement and this explanation must be updated before they are used.

Our primary sources

For registration checks and consumer information, use the National Credit Regulator. Registration references in our profiles are lender-published information, not a claim of live register verification.
