Pause if someone asks for an advance payment

The NCR warns about fake lenders requesting a payment before granting a loan. Be cautious about a “release”, “clearance” or “approval” payment demanded to unlock money. A claimed registration number alone is not proof: scammers can copy another company’s details.

Check the provider independently

Use the NCR register to check the credit provider’s name and registration details. Reach the lender through an independently verified website or contact channel, rather than a link supplied in an unexpected message.

Compare the website address carefully. A small spelling change, unexpected domain or personal bank account can be a reason to stop and verify.

  • Confirm the business name against the regulator’s register.
  • Read the written quotation and fees before accepting.
  • Never share a banking password or one-time password with someone arranging a loan.
  • Do not let an urgent deadline prevent you from checking an offer.

Keep the information you need to report it

If you suspect fraud, save the messages, website address and payment evidence. Contact your bank promptly if you have paid or shared banking information. The NCR’s consumer-rights notice advises reporting upfront-fee scams to the police.

Fairloan does not arrange payouts or request an advance payment. Our lender profile buttons take you to the named lender’s public website.
