The currently linked Instant Loan FAQ describes an upfront fee and limited free death cover. These terms are specific to Instant Loan.
- Initiation fee
- The FAQ describes a fee from R80 up to 10% of the loan amount, excluding VAT, deducted upfront. It does not give a complete formula; confirm the exact fee and net amount paid to you.
- Monthly service fee
- A separate monthly service fee is not confirmed in the reviewed Instant Loan FAQ. Check the quote; the R69 Personal Loan fee is not assumed.
- Credit life / protection
- The FAQ states that death cover is free, capped at R5,627. This is not full-balance cover for every loan up to R8,000. Broader disability or retrenchment benefits are not confirmed; check the applicable terms and exclusions.
Before you apply
- 18 or older; qualifying existing Absa account
- At least R3,000 monthly income paid into that account
- Good credit record and a preselected qualifying limit
- Prior Instant Loan settled; maximum nine per year
What to check
Full repayment is due on the next salary date, within 35 days. The rate covers the entire loan duration, not a month or a year. A 0% rate does not remove initiation fees or VAT. The free death benefit does not cover the full R8,000 maximum.

The public calculator gives fee details and a credit life premium basis. The homepage insurance amount is a separate representative example; confirm the complete quote.

- Credit life / protection
- The public calculator states R4.50 per R1,000 per month on the daily balance. Confirm the exact premium in your quote. The separate R6,000 / 6-month homepage example exceeds the new-customer limit and lists R18 without its billing period; it does not establish your premium. Compulsory status, covered events, exclusions and replacement-cover conditions remain unconfirmed. Request the current policy.

The FAQ publishes VAT-inclusive repayment examples. Its insurance FAQ and examples disagree on the premium; obtain a current written breakdown.
- Initiation fee
- R535 in the R4,000 repayment examples, including VAT. This is an example, not a universal fee or formula.
- Monthly service fee
- Up to R69 per month in the repayment examples, including VAT.
- Credit life / protection
- Mandatory; equivalent replacement cover is allowed. The insurance FAQ states R5.50 per R1,000 of the loan amount per month, while the R4,000 / 12- and 24-month examples show R14 monthly. Confirm the premium and calculation basis in your quote. Cover includes death, disability and qualifying loss of income, subject to policy terms.
Before you apply
- Age 18+ with a valid South African ID
- Permanent employment and a monthly salary
- Three recent payslips or bank statements
- A supported South African bank account and cellphone number
What to check
The homepage labels 5–28.25% as annual interest. The FAQ instead gives up to 5% monthly for its six-month example and 28.25% annually for 12/24 months. We do not present the homepage minimum as an annual offer. Amount/term combinations depend on assessment. An NCR number was not confirmed in the pages reviewed.

Fees & details
Fees & insurance
The R5,000 homepage example combines R868 of fees and R74 interest for a R5,942 total; the fees are not itemised. The terms allow early settlement without advance notice, with unpaid principal, interest, fees, charges and any insurance payable up to the settlement date.
- Initiation fee
- The FAQ says Finance27 does not request payment before a loan is paid out. That does not establish a zero initiation fee: the R868 combined-fee example is not itemised. A separate amount, formula and VAT treatment remain unconfirmed; request the written breakdown.
- Monthly service fee
- The homepage and How It Works page say a service fee and interest are added monthly when a loan is unpaid, but give no numerical service charge or VAT split. The example combines fees. Confirm the ordinary service charge, charging period and any arrears charges in the quote.
- Credit life / protection
- The Early Settlement section refers to any insurance payable up to settlement. That reference does not establish mandatory cover, a premium, calculation basis, benefits or replacement rights. No applicable credit-life policy or premium schedule was confirmed in the reviewed public material. Request these documents before accepting a quote; unconfirmed does not mean free.
Before you apply
- South African citizen above 18 years of age
- Employed, with a regular salary paid into an active bank account in your own name
- Credit and affordability assessment; income, expense, employer and banking information supplied directly to the lender
What to check
The homepage publishes 61–65 days, while generic FAQ copy describes next-payday borrowing. We preserve the explicit day range and do not convert it to months. The site advertises a maximum APR of 38%, but the example does not establish its duration or full cost basis; Fairloan does not present that as a verified all-in comparison rate.

- Initiation fee
- The lending policy states 16.5% of the first R1,000 of capital plus 10% of the amount above R1,000, plus VAT. Homepage wording also refers to R165 and a 15% cap; obtain the exact amount and cap in your quote rather than assuming those descriptions are interchangeable.

- Credit life / protection
- The current terms page links a PDF titled Credit Life Insurance Claim Form, under a Funeral Policy Claims heading. This is a claim form, not policy wording or a premium schedule. Mandatory cover, premium, calculation basis and replacement terms remain unconfirmed. The separate Turbosure funeral brochure does not establish credit-life terms. The public calculator itemises initiation, service fees, interest and insurance. The R2,500 / 18-day example checked on 7 November 2026 totals R3,001.22; this is an illustration, not a customer-specific quote. Wonga states there is no early repayment fee.
- Initiation fee
- R362.25 in the public R2,500 / 18-day calculator example checked on 7 November 2026. This does not establish a universal formula or a separate returning-customer tariff. Published fees include 15% VAT.

A selection of the market, not every lender. Rates and approval depend on your circumstances. How we compare
What to check when borrowing R 1 000
A R1,000 loan can have very different repayment schedules
An existing-customer payday product and a longer personal loan may both include R1,000 in their published ranges. That does not make their repayments comparable. Use the term filter after choosing days or calendar months, and check the final due date in the quotation.
Put fixed charges next to the amount borrowed
Ask for the initiation fee, recurring service charge and any insurance premium in rand. On a small loan, those amounts can be a substantial part of the cost. A headline interest rate alone cannot show how much of your next income will go towards repayment.
Understand interest, fees and insurance before comparing the full amount repayable.
Read the product behind the amount
These examples illustrate different published product ranges. They are not a ranking or personal recommendations. The full list above uses the same amount-matching rule.

Questions about R 1 000 loans
Can a first-time customer use every R1,000 option here?
No. For example, the Absa Instant Loan is listed for existing Absa salary-account customers. Choose New customers to remove products restricted to existing customers, then read the remaining requirements. A published amount range does not show whether a first application will be approved.
Why are lenders with a large advertised maximum missing?
These amount pages require both a confirmed minimum and maximum. A lender advertising only a maximum has not established that it offers R1,000. Those products remain in the main directory, where the missing minimum is explained, but are excluded from this amount-specific list.
Does comparing on Fairloan start a loan application?
No. You can compare products and read their terms without sending Fairloan your ID, income documents or contact details. If you choose an official lender link, any application happens on that lender’s site. The lender decides whether to offer you credit and on what terms.
Compare a different amount
Start with what you need. A higher product limit is not a reason to borrow more.
